What is colon hydrotherapy? A colon hydrotherapy session (aka colonic, high enema, colon irrigation) are all names for the method of removing waste from the large intestine, with the use of modern colon hydrotherapy equipment. It is the gentle infusion of temperature-controlled, filtered water into the colon, therefore, softening and loosening waste, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. This process is repeated a few times during a session. The International Association of Colon Hydrotherapy (I-ACT) adheres to strict federal guidelines that dictate use of FDA approved equipment and disposable single-use speculae and/or tubes. The Healing Place also maintains high, quality standards for cleanliness and professionalism for a healthy experience. What can I expect from a colonic session? During a session, most clothing can be kept on with a drape or gown covering the body to ensure modesty. Your dignity is always maintained. The patient is lying in a supine (face up) position with knees bent. A sterile, disposable rectal tube is inserted about an inch into the rectum. Warm filtered water trickles into the colon via the anus. Once the colon begins to fill, the patient gets the urge to have a bowel movement. When the patient releases, the feces goes down the drain, through the viewing tube, and out into the sewage. This process is repeated several times throughout a (30) thirty minute session. After the session, the patient is given “after-care” instructions. A colonic session is comfortable and can culminate in a feeling of more energy, less overall body pain. However, a colonic may not be for everyone. If discomfort is experienced, the session can be stopped at any time.
